Metropolitan Car-o-Liner’s Dave Demarest, Jr. has been named New Jersey state committee chair for I-CAR, the collision industry’s international training organization.
Formed in 1979, the not-for-profit I-CAR develops and delivers technical training programs to professionals in all areas of the collision industry. Its committee chairs serve as point people for I-CAR volunteers and instructors throughout the country, helping to foster communication and coordinate activities with I-CAR’s regional managers.
As committee chair, Dave will oversee the activities of an approximately 50-person volunteer committee, which includes representatives from all facets of the industry — body shops, insurance personnel, equipment providers, and trainers.
Volunteers donate their time and facilities to promote the importance of technical training in the collision industry. Headquartered in Upper Saddle River, NJ, Metropolitan Car-o-Liner has served as an I-CAR volunteer training site for the northeast since 2003.
“We’ve watched I-CAR grow and diversify over the years,” says Dave. “They now offer 80+ different classes, from core training programs to advanced training paths.”
Organized by task areas, the new training paths allow students to customize their own instruction based on their individual needs. Task areas include non-structural, structural, refinishing, mechanical, and estimating/management/appraisal.
According to Dave, “Training pays off on so many levels, from improved cycle time and production output to reduced liability. We’ve certainly seen the value that I-CAR training delivers to our business, that’s why we’re delighted to be a long-time supporter.”
